An Ordinary Moment - Violet's Experience in the Sandbox.
It was a large group of boys that first got my attention, they were loud and industrious, then I noticed Violet quietly and daintily hovering around the group, “Interesting”, I thought, feeling intrigued and delighted that the big energy of the group did not seems to intimidate Violet, quite the opposite, she kept walking in and out of the center of action, the boys mud puddle! Was Violet trying to get noticed? What was her intent?
Hmm? I felt that any minute now, the boys would certainly protest loudly of her intrusion, but they did not! In fact, I was surprised how Violet managed to get in the middle without interfering. It became noticeable that Violet was having her own personal experience but yet remained aware of her peers play and their space dynamics. I was puzzled! I dared not say anything to Violet as I feared I would burst the “moment”…I kept watching… What was she up to??? Then I saw the thread: Violet was exploring with her feet!
Violet was enjoying the feeling of her bare feet in the sand. She also was comparing how her feet felt when in watery sand, in wet cold sand and in hot dry sand. Violet had her own discoveries, moving about as gracefully as a fairy, accepted by a crowd of busy cement plant workers and leaving without any trace of mud on her skirt!
